"Berlin is a city of construction cranes" I heard once. Really, in Berlin you meet them so often, that they've become considered a part of the city view. Probably this consideration was suggested by the angry photographers, who couldn't capture a single historical sight or panorama without a crane fitting in and spoiling the composition
People have different opinions on this "unending construction". Some think it's bad and makes the city look ugly, the others say "it's good, because construction means changes. the city is changing". The first time I heard this this word "changing" stuck in my head. and when I thought it over, I understood how true this statement is.
If I were to create a dictionary of the meanings of the cities names, I would place next to "Berlin" "changing", "hope", "alive"...then next to "St. Petersburg" would be "stone", "time", "still"...oh and "home". And the number of dictionaries of this type would correspond to the number of people living, for there're as many opinions as there're people.
